Malaysia and Singapore Commit to Boosting Trade and Investment Ties

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia and Singapore have agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the fields of investment and trade, focusing on pivotal bilateral projects, announced Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The agreement came about during a meeting with Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong, held on the sidelines of the 46th ASEAN Summit at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar stated that both leaders expressed their commitment to enhancing collaboration in investment and trade, particularly emphasizing significant projects such as the JS-SEZ and the RTS Link. The meeting also saw the presence of key figures including Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Malaysia's Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, and Singapore Foreign Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan.

Anwar further noted that he and Wong agreed to broaden cooperation in the digital economy, sustainable energy, and the ASEAN Power Grid sectors. They underscored the importance of resolving bilateral issues constructively to ensure mutual benefits and maintain long-term harmonious relations between the two nations.

Wong's visit coincided with his participation in the 46th ASEAN Summit, which also includes the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, scheduled to take place at the same venue. The ongoing ASEAN Summit operates under the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability' as part of the ASEAN 2025 Chairmanship, marking Malaysia's fifth time chairing the association since its previous tenures in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
