Baku:The country has successfully drawn 78,138 highly skilled foreign tech professionals as of September 30, thanks to efforts under the Malaysia Startup Ecosystem Roadmap (SUPER) 2021-2030.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohamad Yusof Apdal attributed this achievement to the ministry's focus on a specific intervention under the roadmap that speeds up visa approvals, facilitating the entry of foreign tech talent. Additionally, enhancements to the funding framework have been made to boost efficiency and attract substantial investments into the startup sector.
These initiatives have resulted in over RM51.17 billion in investments being directed to startups, providing them with the necessary capital for growth and expansion within the ecosystem, Dr Mohamad Yusof stated during a session in the Dewan Rakyat.
In response to a query by S. Kesavan (PH-Sungai Siput) regarding the government's efforts to attract foreign talent, investors, and high-tech startups, Dr Mohamad Yusof highlighted that 5,016 local and foreign startups had registered on the MYStartup platform. This includes companies from countries such as Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Looking ahead, the government plans to continue with SUPER 2.0 from 2026 to 2030 to ensure ongoing funding, attract high-quality investments, and improve local startups' access to global markets. Dr Mohamad Yusof also emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring nationwide participation, including regions beyond the Klang Valley, through various programs and online platforms.
