Malaysia Awaits Saudi Probe Into Detention Of Five Malaysians In Makkah

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia is still awaiting the outcome of investigations by the Saudi Arabian authorities into allegations that five Malaysians were detained for attempting to enter Makkah without Haj permits. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the government was seeking further information on the matter.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Zulkifli stated, "We are still waiting for the investigation," during his brief remarks after attending the 2026 Grand Haj Symposium. Earlier reports from a Saudi Arabian news portal indicated that five Malaysians were arrested after allegedly trying to enter Makkah illegally through hilly desert valleys.

The Saudi Arabian General Directorate of Mujahideen reported that the individuals were detained for violating regulations for the 1447H Haj season. Legal actions are expected to be taken against them. The Saudi authorities also issued reminders to pilgrims and residents to comply with all regulations and procedures to ensure the smooth running and safety of this year's Haj operations.
