Malaysia: Malaysia marks its first international mission as the president of the UN-Habitat Assembly (UNHA) by participating in the 14th Mayors Forum of the World Cities Summit (WCS) 2025, taking place in Vienna, Austria from today until July 4.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian delegation is led by Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, in his role as the UNHA president. The delegation also includes Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif and Dr. Neil Khor Jin Keong, technical advisor on Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).

In a recent statement, Nga highlighted that Malaysia's active participation on the global stage will elevate the country's profile in sustainable urban development, while fostering valuable knowledge exchange, policy learning, and the adoption of best practices. He expressed his honor in participating in the forum alongside mayors leading urban innovation. Nga emphasized the significance of aligning global commitments with local actions and expressed hope that insights and global partnerships formed in Vienna will benefit Malaysia's urban planning and housing strategies.

Throughout the summit, Nga is scheduled for bilateral meetings with key international partners including Gerd Mller, the director-general of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), Vienna Mayor and Governor Michael Ludwig, and Jordi Vaquer, the secretary-general of Metropolis. These discussions will cover plan-led urban development, climate resilience, social inclusion, and the advancement of SDG11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) at both metropolitan and national levels.

Nga is also set to deliver a special address during Mayors Forum Session 1, scheduled for tomorrow.
