Melaka: Malaysia is ready to offer its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) accreditation for adoption by ASEAN member states. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the initiative during a meeting with ministers and senior officials from the region, aimed at aligning and coordinating accreditation standards.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid stated that discussions were held with ministers and senior officials from all ASEAN member states to ensure that accreditation for the TVET industry can be standardized, culminating in a consensus. He emphasized that Malaysia is poised to be the first country to offer this accreditation for adoption by all ASEAN nations.

The announcement followed Ahmad Zahid's keynote address at the ASEAN TVET Council 4th Regional Policy Dialogue (ATC 4th RPD), themed 'TVET for Rural and Regional Advancement.' The event was attended by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, Melaka State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad, and Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang.

Additionally, Ahmad Zahid, who also chairs the National TVET Council, highlighted the government's efforts to align TVET courses with the evolving needs of industry players. This initiative aims to maintain the courses' relevance and enhance their appeal to students pursuing higher education. Malaysia's TVET ecosystem now includes courses in emerging fields such as robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), and electric vehicles, which are in high demand by industries.

In a related development, Ahmad Zahid, also serving as the Rural and Regional Development Minister, announced that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will officiate the National TVET Day 2025 celebration at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh tomorrow. The Prime Minister is expected to announce favorable news for TVET students during the ceremony.
