Malaysia Reaffirms Support for Peace Initiatives in Gaza, Says Prime Minister

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today reiterated that Malaysia welcomes any step that opens the path to peace in Gaza. Anwar stressed that Malaysia also calls for restraint, an immediate halt to attacks, and unimpeded humanitarian aid to reach those in need.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar expressed optimism about recent developments regarding a ceasefire proposal, suggesting that the suffering of the people of Gaza might finally end. He emphasized that while lasting peace will not come overnight, it must begin with the courage to stop the killing and to uphold the sanctity of life. These remarks were made during his special address at the Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2025.

The Prime Minister highlighted Malaysia's firm solidarity with the participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla mission and others working towards a just and durable peace that secures the rights of the Palestinian people. He noted that all 23 Malaysians who participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla mission have been released by Israeli authorities.

On October 2, the 23 Malaysian activists were detained by Israeli troops after their vessels were intercepted in international waters near the R3 red zone of the Mediterranean Sea and taken to the Port of Ashdod in Israel. The Global Sumud Flotilla, consisting of over 500 activists from 45 countries, embarked on a voyage towards Gaza to demonstrate solidarity and attempt to break the Israeli blockade by delivering essential food and medical supplies to Palestinians affected by ongoing attacks.
