Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the humanitarian mission to Gaza, even after the detention of Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 (GSF2.0) participants, including Malaysian nationals, by Israeli forces on May 1.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the mission's patron minister, emphasized that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's steadfast support underscores Malaysia's dedication to humanitarian efforts on the global stage. He lauded the activists, including Malaysians, who voluntarily sacrifice their time, resources, and comfort for the cause, asserting that Malaysia should take pride in these individuals. The activists' commitment to "Break the Silence" and "Break the Siege" highlights their readiness to face risks for the mission's objectives, Amirudin stated during his visit to the Sumud Nusantara Command Center (SNCC).
Amirudin noted that the mission's management has improved, appearing more structured and organized, which enhances confidence in achieving its goals or at least strengthening international awareness about Gaza's situation. He pointed out the growing support in Europe, prompting Malaysia to adopt a clear and firm stance. Malaysia is currently the only nation providing official government recognition to the mission, while other countries have shown support individually or morally.
He highlighted that the mission is not restricted to Muslims, involving participants from Europe and the Nusantara region aiming to break Gaza's blockade and elevate global awareness. The mission employs land and sea routes, with aid deliveries through Rafah, where 30 containers carrying 374 tonnes are en route. Compliance with protocols is essential for the delivery process, particularly when crossing borders. Amirudin shared that previous missions successfully delivered 100 containers of aid, including 40,000 tins of food distributed before Ramadan and Eid, reaching Palestinians.
Amirudin also addressed attempts to block the GSF2.0 mission in international waters, approximately 1,000km from Gaza, highlighting the Israeli regime's desperation and the global attention it has garnered. He asserted that voices in Europe are growing stronger, and Malaysia will maintain a peaceful yet firm stance, with the government demonstrating bolder actions. Amirudin expressed hope that Malaysia's position will inspire other countries to follow suit and extend similar recognition.
