Malaysia Sets Sights on Innovation-Driven Digital Future at Expo 2025 Osaka

Osaka: Malaysia is committed to shaping an innovation-driven future that is inclusive, sustainable, and powered by talent and creativity, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo. He emphasized that Expo 2025 Osaka in Japan serves as a strategic platform to enhance collaborative networks, particularly between Malaysia and Japan, towards developing a collective digital future.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Gobind made these remarks during his speech for the launch of Digital Ministry Week at the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. The event, which runs from August 11 to 15, coincides with the 18th week of the exhibition. Themed "Weaving a Future in Harmony," Digital Ministry Week was officially inaugurated online by Gobind.

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) leads the ministry's participation, aiming to showcase the country's capabilities and potential in the creative technology sector. This includes areas such as animation, digital games, immersive technology, and the development of original content based on local intellectual property (IP).

A significant highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Unbound and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This agreement focuses on strengthening digital literacy and youth development through artificial intelligence (AI), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and gamified learning using augmented reality (AR) technology. The initiative also includes policy research and AI ethics, supported by the Securities Commission Malaysia and the Ministry of Finance.

Throughout the week, 14 local creative digital companies will be featured through exhibitions and interactive activities. These activities include game and animation demonstrations, virtual reality experiences, mascot parades, 'pocket talk' segments, and business matching sessions. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the digital game No Straight Roads, created by local company Metronomik, which is collaborating with Japanese publisher Shueisha Games to develop No Straight Roads 2. This collaboration highlights the potential of Malaysia's creative content on the global stage.

Malaysia's participation in Expo 2025 Osaka provides an international platform to showcase the country's digital ecosystem capabilities, highlight local content creator talent, expand strategic collaboration networks, and boost investment potential, contributing to digital economy growth. It also enhances Malaysia's visibility as a leader in digital transformation in Southeast Asia, aiming to become the region's leading digital industry hub.

The Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, running from April 13 to October 13, 2025, serves as an international stage to present the country's economic strengths, technological capabilities, and cultural identity. Over the six-month exhibition, it targets RM13 billion in investments, with participation from 21 federal ministries and about 70 government departments and agencies, marking it as a comprehensive collaborative effort to strengthen Malaysia's position on the world stage.
