Malaysia Settles for Silver in Sepak Takraw Regu Event at Asian Games

Aichi-Nagoya:The Malaysian national sepak takraw team fell short of winning the gold medal in the regu event at the 2026 Asian Games, losing to a strong Thai team. Head coach Ahmad Jais Baharun pointed out that Thailand's consistent and polished performance in both attack and defense made it challenging for Malaysia to gain momentum during the match.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Thailand's ability to execute consistent attacks and maintain a solid defense was pivotal in their victory over Malaysia. The match concluded with Malaysia losing 0-2 with scores of 9-15 and 8-15, resulting in a silver medal for the team.

Ahmad Jais described the outcome as a positive achievement despite the loss, as it highlighted the areas where the team needs improvement. He emphasized the importance of identifying these shortcomings to enhance performance in future competitions.

This result dashed Malaysia's hopes of achieving a double-gold mission at the Asian Games. The team had previously secured the team regu title just four days prior. The last time Malaysia won two sepak takraw gold medals in a single Asian Games edition was in 1990 in Beijing.
