Malaysia, Singapore Expand Strategic Healthcare Ties

Malaysia and singapore: Malaysia and Singapore are strengthening strategic cooperation in healthcare, including food labelling policy alignment, access to medical technology and cross-border health tourism for the benefit of both countries.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad shared in a Facebook post that these matters were discussed during a bilateral meeting with his Singapore counterpart Ong Ye Kung in Geneva, Switzerland, today. The meeting underscored the ongoing collaboration between the two nations, reinforced through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which highlights strong mutual trust and their dedication to public wellbeing.

Dr Dzulkefly emphasized that the discussions included aligning the Nutri-Grade food labelling policy as part of a proactive regional strategy to address non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This alignment is seen as a step towards a more coordinated regional approach to health challenges.

Furthermore, Malaysia welcomed the implementation of the Medical Device Regulatory Reliance Programme. This initiative is anticipated to expedite access to high-quality and innovative medical technologies within the regional market, thereby enhancing medical services offered to the populations of both countries.

The bilateral talks also explored expanding cross-border health tourism. This includes facilitating patient referrals from Singapore to private healthcare facilities in Johor and extending Medisave insurance coverage. Such measures are expected to generate economic benefits and enhance healthcare connectivity for communities in the southern region.

In addressing increasingly complex public health challenges, Dr Dzulkefly noted that this cooperation not only strengthens the longstanding ties between Malaysia and Singapore but also supports efforts to build a more sustainable, resilient, and people-centred regional healthcare system. He reiterated Malaysia's commitment to fostering diplomacy and cooperation grounded in mutual respect and shared prosperity.
