Kuala lumpur: The government is strengthening regional cooperation to expand the reach of Malaysia's creative intellectual properties (IPs), including local films and animation, into regional markets, Corporation Malaysia (Finas) is actively forging strategic partnerships to facilitate the entry of Malaysian creative IPs into high-potential ASEAN markets, including Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi highlighted the success of Malaysian animation in regional markets, noting the positive reception of "Upin and Ipin" in Indonesia and the successful penetration of local films into markets like Vietnam and Cambodia. These efforts will be intensified to create wider opportunities for local creative industry players.

Fahmi made these remarks during a press conference on Riuh Hangout 2025, following the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which emphasizes the creative economy as a new driver of national growth. The event was also attended by Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching and Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa.

Furthermore, Fahmi mentioned that both Finas and MyCreative Ventures are being tasked with providing funding and facilitating collaboration between animation creators and corporate banking institutions. This collaboration aims to strengthen ties between the corporate banking sector and the creative industry, especially concerning financing, licensing, and distribution matters, which will be managed by Finas.

Fahmi emphasized that this initiative is in alignment with the 13MP's focus on developing the creative economy by expanding into export markets and boosting the global competitiveness of Malaysian creative content. Additional details on the initiative are expected to be presented during his winding-up speech on the debate on the 13MP in Parliament on August 20.
