Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia will send a representative to attend the United Nations (UN) conference in New York next week, which aims to discuss a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister expressed support for the efforts by France and Saudi Arabia in initiating the conference.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized the importance of countries attending and expressing their views on justice for Palestine and Gaza. He voiced his support for the initiative led by Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and French President Emmanuel Macron to organize the conference.

During his remarks after Friday prayers at Masjid Azzubair Ibnul Awwam in Cheras, Anwar also addressed media reports about the US administration under President Donald Trump warning governments against attending the conference. The reports suggested that Washington viewed attendance as opposing US foreign policy, potentially leading to diplomatic repercussions, and highlighted the US rejection of any unilateral recognition of Palestine.

When asked about his personal attendance at the conference scheduled from June 17 to 20, Anwar stated that he would probably not attend. The conference is primarily organized by France and Saudi Arabia, with Paris reportedly considering the unilateral recognition of Palestine.
