Kuala lumpur: Malaysia and Turkmenistan have engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing their bilateral relations, which have spanned over three decades. These talks have particularly focused on areas such as halal, natural resources, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi conducted the discussions with Turkmenistan's Ambassador to Malaysia, Muhammetnyyaz Mashalov, during a courtesy call at Parliament. The conversations also extended to areas like investment, tourism, and collaboration in the technical sector and skills training.
Ahmad Zahid emphasized that Turkmenistan holds a significant position as one of Malaysia's key partners in the Central Asian region, notably through strategic investments by PETRONAS, a major foreign investor in Turkmenistan. He highlighted the ongoing cooperation as a reflection of the potential for broader collaboration in the future.
Ahmad Zahid expressed appreciation for Mashalov's courtesy call and conveyed hopes for the continued growth of Malaysia-Turkmenistan relations, underlining the benefits such ties could bring to the citizens of both nations.
