Kuala lumpur: Malaysia will not allow any part of its territory to be used as a refuge or hideout by parties resorting to violence and rejecting the peace process in southern Thailand. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin emphasized the government's commitment to supporting efforts for peace in the neighboring region, stressing that Malaysian land will not serve as a sanctuary for those opposing peace.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamed Khaled Nordin addressed the media after launching the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at the Ministry of Defence. He assured that Malaysia would fully cooperate with Thai authorities to prevent its territory from being exploited by violent entities. The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) are set to reinforce security and monitoring along the Malaysia-Thailand border to avert any spillover incidents from southern Thailand.

The Minister also stated that the MAF had proposed several candidates to the Prime Minister for the role of facilitator in the southern Thailand peace process, following the end of Datuk Mohd Rabin Basir's tenure. These steps are part of Malaysia's long-standing involvement in fostering peace in the region, recognizing the complexity of uniting different factions and groups.

Recent incidents in southern Thailand, including bombings and arson, led to a curfew in Narathiwat, raising concerns among residents near the border, including those in Kampung Lubok Gong and Kampung Tersang in Rantau Panjang.
