Kuala lumpur: Malaysia has not received any information regarding claims that fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low, is currently residing in Shanghai, China, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar stated that he would investigate the matter concerning the central figure in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) financial scandal, who is reported to be using a fake Australian passport, with Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar expressed his lack of information on the issue, emphasizing that Malaysia has not received any updates. He assured that he would verify the situation with the Home Minister, stating, "I have no information, we have yet to receive anything. Let me check. I've read (the media reports). I need to verify with the Home Minister." Anwar's comments were made following his attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony of the MADANI Complex in Teluk Kumbar.
The Prime Minister was responding to media reports suggesting that Jho Low, who is being pursued by international authorities, is believed to be residing in a prestigious area of Shanghai with a forged Australian passport. This information was revealed by investigative journalists Bradley Hope and Tom Wright, renowned for their work on the global 1MDB financial scandal, during a special episode of Finding Jho Low: Live with Bradley Hope and Tom Wright.
The 1MDB scandal, recognized as one of the world's largest financial scandals, identified Jho Low as the mastermind. He is accused of embezzling US$7.65 billion (RM35 billion).
