Malaysian Activist Urges Continued Support for Gaza Amidst Ongoing Crisis

Kuala lumpur: Malaysian humanitarian activist Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri Kamaruzaman, known as Nadir Al-Nuri, has urged Malaysians to persist in their advocacy for the Palestinian people as Gaza faces two years of ongoing genocide.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nadir Al-Nuri, the chief executive officer of Cinta Gaza Malaysia and leader of the Sumud Nusantara mission, emphasized that despite the mission's inability to breach the Israeli blockade, it significantly raised global awareness of the Palestinians' plight.

Nadir Al-Nuri expressed gratitude for the efforts made over nearly two months, stating, "While we did not manage to break the siege, we have succeeded in breaking the silence," during a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1. The Malaysian delegation of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission received a warm welcome from Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, alongside other government officials and hundreds of Palestinian supporters.

The Emirates flight carrying the 27 Malaysian volunteers, including activists and lawyers, landed safely on Tuesday evening. Nadir Al-Nuri highlighted the continuing struggle for Palestinian freedom, urging that efforts should persist beyond the mission's conclusion, amid ongoing adversity faced by Gaza's residents.

Datuk Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby, director-general of the Sumud Nusantara Operations Centre (SNCC), attributed the mission's success to the unity and solidarity among Malaysians. He called for continued support and announced a second wave of the solidarity mission to be revealed at a rally in Bukit Jalil.

The Israeli attacks on Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023, have resulted in significant casualties and injuries, affecting thousands, including children. The GSF mission, comprising about 500 activists from 44 countries, aimed to break the Israeli blockade and deliver essential supplies to Palestinians. However, 23 Malaysian activists were detained by Israeli forces before being released with Turkish assistance.
