Sungai udang: The Malaysian Army (TDM) is leveraging advanced drone technology to bolster security surveillance in challenging terrains along the Malaysia-Thailand border, particularly in light of the ongoing unrest in southern Thailand. Chief of Army Gen Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman elaborated on this initiative, highlighting the critical role of drone technology in overcoming obstacles posed by the region's hilly and densely forested areas, where traditional troop patrols are not feasible.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Gen Azhan emphasized the strategic advantage provided by these aerial assets. He explained that drones are instrumental in gathering intelligence and offering a real-time situational overview, facilitating informed decisions before deploying ground units for further action. He assured that despite the challenging terrain, border security remains stringent, with operations running continuously to prevent illegal crossings and ensure the border remains uncompromised.

Gen Azhan also addressed the potential for illegal routes due to the difficult terrain but reaffirmed that the situation is under control. He underscored the commitment of the personnel to adhere to clear rules of engagement, ensuring firm and immediate responses to any threats.

In a related development, Gen Azhan discussed his recent official visit to Russia, invited by the Russian Ground Forces, which focused on enhancing bilateral military relations. The discussions centered on training cooperation and course exchange opportunities, specifically in combined arms and artillery. Both nations are nearing the finalization of these arrangements, paving the way for TDM personnel to receive specialized training in Russia.
