Malaysian National Cycling Federation Targets Sponsor Engagement to Boost Road Cycling.

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) aims to focus on convincing sponsors to ensure the continued excellence in the sport, especially for the national road cycling squad. Its president Datuk Amarjit Singh said that the road cycling squad deserved to be supported after several successes, including winning the gold medal at the 2023 South East Asian (SEA) Games, but admitted that it was a hard task to do so.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amarjit noted the disparity in sponsorship between the Malaysian and Thai road cycling squads, highlighting how the latter benefits from substantial private sector support. He mentioned that addressing this gap was a key topic during the first executive committee meeting he chaired. The federation is keen to alter the perception that it is plagued with problems and is optimistic about attracting sponsors to aid the national road cycling squad as they prepare for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

Amarjit, who also serves as the Asian Cycling Confede
ration (ACC) vice-president and the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF) secretary-general, emphasized that the road cycling squad is currently based in Malaysia and lacks the financial support that the national track cycling squad receives.

Furthermore, the MNCF implemented some organizational changes during the meeting. Amarjit retained his role as the chairman of the Track and Disciplinary Committee, while deputy president Mazlan Md Jail was appointed to lead the Anti-Doping Committee. Vice president Norazman Datuk Abu Samah was chosen to chair the Technical and Road Committee, and former Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin was designated to head the Financial, Cycling for All, Amendments, and Special Tasks Committees.
