Malaysian Students Abroad Safe Amid Geopolitical Tensions: Zambry

Kuala lumpur: Malaysian students abroad remain generally safe despite current geopolitical challenges, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir. He noted that the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) is collaborating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) to monitor the welfare and safety of Malaysians overseas. "We will continue to assist them, with support provided on a case-by-case basis," he stated while addressing reporters after the Public-Private Research Network (PPRN) 2026 Conference.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zambry mentioned that the situation varies by country, depending on the number of students and the local challenges they face. He reassured that MOHE is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of students in different regions.

In a separate statement, Zambry emphasized that MOHE will adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption within higher education institutions. He underscored the importance of addressing any abuse of power or corruption at universities, polytechnics, or other higher education institutions, irrespective of the scale of the issue.

He confirmed MOHE's full cooperation with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in all related investigations and reviews. Additionally, financial management and project-related matters are being referred to the National Audit Department for further scrutiny.
