Kuala lumpur: All Malaysian students in conflict areas in the Middle East are safe, and the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) is closely monitoring the situation, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir. He emphasized that MOHE is working in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry to ensure the students' safety in the region.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zambry stated that cooperation with the Foreign Ministry is ongoing to observe developments concerning Malaysian students and citizens in the Middle East. He assured that all students are currently safe, with continuous monitoring by MOHE. He shared these updates at the ministry's Monthly Assembly and Ramadan Ukhuwah Programme 2026.
When asked about the possibility of students returning home for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, Zambry mentioned that the ministry is assessing the situation in the Middle East before making any decisions. He highlighted that any actions concerning overseas crises would be guided by the Foreign Ministry, which leads diplomatic and international security efforts.
Addressing governance and financial management issues at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Zambry noted that MOHE has tasked the university's top management with implementing improvement measures. He stated that UKM must cooperate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), which are investigating these irregularities.
The MACC chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, announced that two investigations have been initiated following the Auditor-General's Report (LKAN) 1/2026, which highlighted significant governance and financial breaches at UKM. The report revealed serious irregularities in student fee revenue collection and expenditure management that did not align with legal and financial regulations.
