Kuala lumpur: International solidarity with the Palestinian people must move beyond demonstrations and statements and be translated into tangible action to pressure Israel to halt its settlement expansion in the occupied Palestinian territory, said Palestinian Affairs Analyst Osama Nazzal. Speaking during a live video interview from Palestine on Bernama TV's Bernama World recently, Nazzal emphasized the urgent need for the international community to transform its stated opposition to Israeli settlements into concrete actions before the situation escalates further. According to Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty, Nazzal was speaking on the topic "Palestine Beyond The Headlines: International Solidarity With The Palestinian People," where he called for increased pressure from international governments and parliaments through the United Nations and other global mechanisms. He described Israel's activities as a colonial project and stressed the necessity for tangible measures to compel Israel to cease its expansion efforts. Nazzal warned of the potentially catastrophic consequences if the international community fails to act decisively. He advocated for the establishment of a Palestinian state on land occupied in 1967, urging that international positions must not remain mere declarations. He highlighted the ongoing expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, noting the fragmentation of the territory into smaller enclaves and the encirclement of Palestinian communities by settlements and military forces. Nazzal pointed out that Israel aims to increase settlers in the West Bank to over one million, currently estimated at around 800,000. Nazzal acknowledged the growing international solidarity movement, which has enhanced pressure on governments and international bodies. This movement, comprising universities, trade unions, NGOs, academics, and civil society, is becoming more structured and influential in political developments. He also connected international public mobilization to legal developments o n the global stage, noting that millions have urged their governments and parliaments to adopt positions on Palestinian rights and apply pressure on Israel. Nazzal emphasized the importance of building on these developments to ensure continued international pressure and concrete measures for Palestinian rights and ending the occupation. Discussing Malaysia's role, Nazzal highlighted the strategic importance of Malaysia and Muslim countries, citing their financial and diplomatic support as vital for Palestinian resilience. He commended successive Malaysian governments for their steadfast support of Palestinian rights and opposition to Israeli occupation.
