Malaysia’s Digital Creative Industry Surpasses RM92.5 Billion Revenue, Creates 11,000 Jobs

Kuching: Malaysia's digital creative industry has generated more than RM92.5 billion in revenue and RM12.1 billion in exports, attracted RM85.7 billion in investments, and created over 11,000 high-value jobs. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo highlighted the industry's growth at the Borneo Animation and Games Festival (BAGFest) 2026.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Gobind Singh Deo emphasized the economic potential of sectors like animation, games, and digital content, which extend beyond their creative value. He noted the success of Malaysian intellectual properties, such as 'Upin and Ipin', 'Ejen Ali', and 'Mechamato', that have gained international recognition.

Gobind stated that strong Malaysian intellectual properties can open new commercial opportunities, support business growth, and generate highly skilled jobs. He emphasized the importance of evaluating the industry not just from a creative perspective but also considering its economic potential.

Furthermore, he mentioned that Malaysia is on track to have its digital economy contribute 30 percent of the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030, while aiming to create 500,000 high-value digital jobs over the next four years. Gobind highlighted the significant role of Sarawak in the next phase of Malaysia's digital growth, given its creative community and growing digital ecosystem.

He assured that the Federal Government is committed to working with Sarawak to enhance its digital capabilities and connect the state's creative industry to broader opportunities across Malaysia, Southeast Asia, and beyond. Gobind expressed support for Sarawak's ambition to establish itself as a regional hub for animation and games.

BAGFest 2026, themed 'Forging Sarawak's Digital Future as the Regional Hub for Animation and Games', marks the first international animation and games festival of its scale to take place in Borneo.
