Malaysia’s Diplomatic Stance on West Asia Conflict Gains Support from Iran and US

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia's balanced diplomatic stand on the West Asian conflict has been well received by most countries, including Iran and the United States, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He emphasized that Malaysia's stance is rooted in the principles of international law and peace, garnering respect from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member countries as well.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysia's position criticizes actions by Israel and the US as contrary to United Nations resolutions and international law and ethics. Initially, GCC countries expressed concern over Malaysia's position, but have since recognized its benefits, as Zahid articulated during his keynote address at the 10th Better Nation Forum: The Impact of the US-Iran Conflict on Malaysia, held at Menara Dato' Onn Auditorium.

Ahmad Zahid highlighted Malaysia's efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties with Gulf countries, the United States, and Iran amidst challenging geopolitical developments. He noted that Malaysia maintains cordial relations with the Gulf countries and continues its diplomatic and economic engagements with the US, while fostering good relations with Iran.

He cited a recent development where seven oil tankers, previously unable to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, were released, aiding Malaysia's oil supply. Although not all tankers have been released, Zahid expressed optimism that the blockade would be lifted soon.

Zahid concluded by stating that Malaysia's impartial but principled approach ensures the preservation of national interests, while also strengthening its position among involved and friendly countries. He underscored that Malaysia's bold stance, despite being a small country, enhances its international relations and standing.
