Kelantan: The Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) is currently examining the technical and operational aspects necessary for the implementation of early childhood education, starting at the age of five, as part of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). This initiative is aimed at reinforcing the foundation of the country's early education system.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Education Minister, Fadhlina Sidek, emphasized the importance of this move to ensure that the policy is implemented smoothly and effectively. The Ministry is focusing on a thorough examination of technical and operational requirements to ensure the initiative has a positive impact.
Fadhlina stated, "We still have five years during the 13MP, and the MOE will also hold a special briefing for the media to provide a comprehensive explanation on this move." She made this statement while addressing reporters after presenting the Early Schooling Assistance (BAP) for Form Six Students Semester 1 Year 2025 at the Kelantan state level at the Education Technology Resources Sector, Pengkalan Chepa.
Further commenting on the study, Fadhlina mentioned that it includes assessing the needs for teaching resources, infrastructure, and the readiness of all involved parties. When asked about the possibility of changing the entry age for Year One to six years or for students to sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) at the age of 16, she noted that these details would be disclosed once finalized.
Last Thursday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced in the Dewan Rakyat that the government intends to make preschool education compulsory starting at the age of five. This measure aims to strengthen early childhood education and improve the outcomes of the national education system.
