Kluang: A man and his girlfriend have been placed under sedation after suffering serious burns in a distressing incident believed to involve petrol near the Simpang Renggam Toll Plaza last Wednesday. Kluang police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh reported receiving an emergency call at 5.46 am concerning a car on fire at the site.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, initial investigations revealed that the man, a 44-year-old local, had pulled his 37-year-old girlfriend from a bus before dousing her and himself with petrol. He then ignited a lighter, resulting in both being set ablaze. The incident was witnessed by the bus driver, who subsequently filed a police report around 6 am.
Bahrin detailed that both the man and the woman, along with a local man in his 30s who attempted to intervene, were swiftly transported to Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital for medical treatment. The intervening man sustained burns to his hands and feet while trying to assist the victims. The case is currently being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
