SIBU: Police have arrested a 35-year-old truck driver in connection with threatening messages allegedly sent to popular singer Nor Ashima Ramli, known professionally as Baby Shima, through a social media platform. The arrest was made in Kota Sentosa, Kuching, as part of an ongoing investigation into the online threats.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed that the suspect was detained at 9:15 p.m. yesterday. The suspect's smartphone was seized to aid in the investigation. The authorities are expected to request a remand order for the suspect. The police report was filed by Baby Shima, who is currently in Sibu for work, after she encountered the threatening messages. The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Zulkipli urged the public to exercise caution when posting on social media, emphasizing the importance of staying within legal boundaries. Baby Shima lodged the report at the Sibu Police Station, accompanied by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing. She had recently performed as a guest artist at the 2025 New Year celebrations organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture at the Azman Hashim Community Sports Complex in Sibu Jaya.
