Cameron highlands: Police arrested a young man on suspicion of concealing the birth and death of a baby boy in a hilly area in Kampung Melayu Desa Kayangan in Brinchang, Cameron Highlands, yesterday. Cameron Highlands police chief Supt Azri Ramli said police received information from the suspect's father, who found the baby's body at 10 am.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the suspect's father noticed a patch of soil that had been disturbed while he was heading to the water tank behind their house. Upon closer inspection, he discovered a white cloth bundle containing the deceased baby and subsequently notified the police.
The 19-year-old suspect, employed as a cleaner at a homestay, confessed to burying the remains of the two-day-old baby, who was born to his 21-year-old stepsister. Following this confession, police apprehended the suspect at 5.30 pm at his residence in Kampung Melayu Desa Kayangan. Tools such as hoes and shovels, allegedly used to dig the ground and bury the infant, were seized during the arrest.
The suspect is currently remanded for four days starting today to aid in the investigation under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which pertains to concealing the birth and death of a baby.
