Manila Archdiocese to hold 2nd collection for ‘Communications Sunday’

MANILA: Churches under the Archdiocese of Manila will be conducting a second collection during Masses this weekend in support of social communications as part of evangelization efforts.

In Circular No. 2024-31 dated May 8 and made public on Friday, Chancellor Fr. Isidro Marinay asked priests and monsignors of the archdiocese to make another round of collection during Masses on May 11 and 12 for the benefit of apostolates of social communications, in celebration of the 58th World Communications Sunday.

‘On May 12, 2024, the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, the Church will celebrate 58th World Communications Sunday with the theme ‘Artificial Intelligence and the Wisdom of the Heart: Towards a Fully Human Communication,'” he said.

‘To support the apostolates of social communications in the archdiocesan and national levels, there will be a second collection in all Masses from the evening of Saturday, May 11, 2024, until Sunday, May 12, 2024.’

Marinay also directed concerned church personnel to forward
the collection to the Treasury and Accounting Department of the Arzobispado de Manila on or before the end of the month.

Established in 1967 by Pope Paul VI, World Communications Day encourages the faithful to reflect on the opportunities and challenges that the modern means of social communication (the press, motion pictures, radio, television, and the Internet) afford the Church to communicate the gospel.
