Marcos calls for Earth Hour observance, promotes energy security bid

MANILA: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday called on the public to participate in Earth Hour, a worldwide initiative that encourages everyone to switch off their lights for an hour.

‘Ladies and gentlemen, we commemorate once again Earth Hour. Let us highlight the crucial role of energy efficiency in addressing climate change,’ Marcos said in a video message uploaded on his official Facebook page.

‘By embracing energy efficient practices, we can reduce our carbon footprint and create a sustainable future,’ he added.

This year’s Earth Hour is set from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Marcos hoped that the observance of Earth Hour would help foster a ‘greener future.’

He also invited everyone to join the ‘You Have the Power’ energy conservation campaign to reduce the carbon footprint and foster a ‘resilient and energy-secure Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines).’

Marcos said the campaign recently launched in the country is a step forward in attaining energy security and sustainable systems.

‘In the Philipp
ines, our commitment to promoting energy efficiency paves the way for a cleaner, more climate resilient nation,’ he said.

Marcos emphasized the importance of efficient resource management, especially amid pressing challenges such as the El Niño phenomenon.

‘Let’s adhere to energy efficiency directives not only to preserve the environment but also to foster a robust adaptive nation for the New Philippines that we envision,’ Marcos said.
