Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Association of Theme Parks and Family Attractions (MATFA) has called on the government and relevant tourism agencies to provide greater support in promoting Malaysia's theme park industry as a key pillar of the national tourism strategy ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MATFA President Tan Sri Richard Koh stated that the association is ready to play a significant role in attracting both local and international tourists to the country's theme parks and family attractions. Koh emphasized that Malaysia offers a variety of world-class theme parks, edutainment centers, and attractions suitable for all ages. He highlighted that VM2026 presents an ideal opportunity to showcase Malaysia's offerings, which range from thrilling rides and water parks to cultural and educational experiences.
MATFA is seeking strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), Tourism Malaysia, and state governments to incorporate major theme parks and attractions into VM2026 promotional materials and tourism campaigns. The association suggests offering tax or promotional incentives to operators to enhance guest experiences and affordability, thereby promoting Malaysia as a family-friendly destination in regional and global markets.
Currently, MATFA is supporting the ongoing Malaysia Mega Sale 2025 Campaign and believes that with appropriate support, the theme park and family attractions sector can significantly boost tourist spending, create job opportunities, and contribute to Malaysia's tourism recovery and growth post-pandemic. The association and its members are preparing value-added packages, special events, and cross-promotions leading up to VM2026 to enhance visitor experiences and encourage longer stays.
Tan Sri Richard Koh expressed MATFA's readiness to collaborate with the government and private sector to ensure VM2026 becomes a tourism milestone for Malaysia, aspiring to make the country the preferred family holiday destination in South-East Asia. Established in 2001, MATFA represents theme parks, water parks, playlands, arcades, and family entertainment centers across Malaysia and the ASEAN region, promoting healthy recreation, industry standards, and tourism development through collaboration and advocacy.
