Ipoh: The hosting of MATTA Connect 2026 in Ipoh demonstrates that cities beyond the capital are equally capable of delivering world-class tourism events, while creating greater opportunities to showcase Malaysia's emerging destinations to the global market.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing stated that the decision to hold the event in Perak reflects confidence in the state's potential as a tourism destination capable of attracting international industry players. He emphasized that the presence of international buyers and tourism operators in Ipoh was not only for business meetings but also allowed them to experience the destination firsthand, paving the way for the development of new travel packages.

Tiong, whose speech was delivered by Tourism, Arts and Culture Deputy Minister Chiew Choon Man at the MATTA Connect 2026 closing dinner, highlighted that the event aligns with the objectives of the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign. This initiative aims to ensure that tourism growth is distributed more evenly across the country instead of being concentrated in established destinations such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Melaka, Langkawi, and Sabah.

He noted that Perak offers a diverse range of experiences, from the ancient rainforests of Royal Belum and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lenggong Valley to the historic charm of Ipoh, the royal heritage of Kuala Kangsar, and the beaches of Pangkor Island. Beyond these iconic locations, Perak thrives on its world-renowned culinary scene, dramatic limestone caves, adventure tourism, ecotourism, and community-driven initiatives, which are precisely the authentic experiences today's global travelers seek.

In this regard, Tiong mentioned that the ministry would continue collaborating with the Perak state government, Tourism Perak, and industry stakeholders to strengthen tourism infrastructure, enhance tourism products, and intensify international promotional efforts. The goal is to position Perak as one of the country's leading destinations for VM2026.

He further emphasized the importance of platforms like MATTA Connect, which enable industry professionals to build trust, share market insights, and co-create innovative travel experiences.
