Maxis Donates 15 Refurbished Laptops to UKM Students to Enhance Digital Access

Kuala Lumpur:Maxis Berhad has donated 15 refurbished laptops to underprivileged students at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This contribution is part of Maxis's broader initiative, which has seen the distribution of over 1,000 refurbished laptops to educational and community causes over the past three years.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the laptops were reconditioned as part of Maxis's circularity initiatives. The company services and refurbishes retired enterprise laptops to donate them to community partners and students, enhancing their access to coursework and online resources.

Maxis Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Azizul Abdul Rahman emphasized that this initiative is a testament to the company's dedication to digital inclusion and responsible technology use, resonating with its brand promise, "Tomorrow Begins Today." He stated that reaching the milestone of donating 1,000 refurbished laptops highlights the significant community impact of circularity. The handover aims to ease learning challenges for UKM students as they pursue their academic goals.

UKM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Sufian Jusoh expressed appreciation for the support, noting its role in alleviating financial burdens on students. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between universities and corporate partners in bridging the digital divide and preparing students with future-ready skills.

In addition to supporting tertiary education, Maxis has extended its laptop contributions to schools and community centers nationwide. Through the Menuju Gemilang programme, developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, secondary school students are equipped for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination and future tertiary education endeavors.

These contributions align with Maxis's GenAI eKelas programme, part of the company's ongoing efforts to enhance digital access across Malaysia. By extending the life of these devices, Maxis promotes circularity, reduces e-waste, and supports digital inclusion by providing essential tools to students and communities.
