Kuala lumpur: Maxis, in strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), today launched its expanded Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) workshop, Program GenAI Maxis eKelas, aimed at empowering students and teachers with future-ready AI skills and knowledge. Held at SMK Seri Bintang Selatan here, the initiative supports Malaysia's transition to an AI-powered nation through digital and AI literacy in line with the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) and the Digital Education Policy.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the ministry's Educational Resources and Technology Division (BSTP) director Aniza Kamarulzaman stated that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to mainstreaming technology in education. She emphasized that Program GenAI Maxis eKelas is not just about technology transfer but also about cultivating a generation skilled and responsible in using AI. By equipping teachers and students with these critical skills, the foundation for the AI-powered classroom is set, ensuring the future workforce can lead, innovate, and compete globally.
The workshop combines industry expertise with curriculum-aligned module design, incorporating active facilitation and measurable learning outcomes, and involves 50 Maxis volunteers as developers and trainers. It is structured into two dedicated tracks - one for students, focusing on practical GenAI applications, creative tasks, and soft skills; and another for teachers, covering AI insights, prompt engineering for teaching, and professional development. Both tracks cover ethical AI use, ensuring participants are equipped to navigate the AI landscape responsibly and safely.
Maxis aims to upskill 30,000 students and teachers nationwide, covering 150 schools across all states and digitalising the modules for wider access through the Maxis eKelas portal, accessible through the Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia (DELIMa) platform. Maxis chief corporate affairs officer Azizul Abdul Rahman asserted that the initiative aligns with the company's belief that 'Tomorrow Begins Today', by equipping students and teachers with critical skills to thrive in an AI-driven world. By providing a strong foundation in GenAI, participants will be well-positioned to seize future opportunities.
Workshops in selected schools have demonstrated positive outcomes, with an average 40 percent increase in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores. The GenAI modules, piloted with more than 70 teachers and 60 students, cover topics such as Machine Learning (ML) and Large Language Models (LLMs). The programme builds on the success of Maxis eKelas' Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum, which began incorporating GenAI modules in 2024. Maxis eKelas is an after-school digital learning initiative aimed at improving academic performance, particularly in underserved communities, offering live tutorials, group learning, competitions, and digital content via its web portal and mobile app.
