MBI Aims to Position Malaysia and Indonesia as Key Players in Integrated Circuit Production

Bandung: Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) is setting its sights on the rapid growth of the semiconductor industry in both Malaysia and Indonesia, with a vision to establish these nations as significant producers of integrated circuits (ICs), stated group chief executive officer Datuk Saipolyazan M Yusop. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saipolyazan highlighted that global semiconductor firms are increasingly expanding their presence in Selangor, which is opening avenues for collaboration with Indonesian technology companies. "For Indonesian technology companies, Selangor provides two strategic opportunities: as a regional operational hub for expanding into the ASEAN market and as a strategic collaborator in the digital and semiconductor sectors to support Indonesia's technological ambitions," he remarked during the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS)@ASEAN held in Bandung, Indonesia. His presentation, themed "Selangor-Indonesia Sovereign Synergy: Scaling ASEAN's Economic Future," was par t of the inaugural SIBS@ASEAN 2026 Bandung, organized by Invest Selangor Bhd. Saipolyazan emphasized that Selangor has developed a robust digital ecosystem that includes connectivity, semiconductor design, talent development, innovation acceleration, and industry collaboration. He mentioned state-supported infrastructure such as fibre optic networks, smart city solutions, and the Cyberjaya technology ecosystem, alongside IC design hubs in Puchong and Cyberjaya backed by technical training and talent development initiatives. He cited two major projects in Selangor, noting that the Puchong Hub (Phase 1) is fully operational, accommodating over 200 engineers from 14 semiconductor firms, including tenants like SkyeChip, MaiStorage, and Weeroc. The hub is anticipated to yield economic returns between RM500 million and RM1 billion. The Cyberjaya Hub (Phase 2) hosts the Advanced Malaysian Semiconductor Academy, aiming to train 20,000 semiconductor engineers over the next decade. Saipolyazan underscored the importa nce of Selangor's role in the global semiconductor value chain and the potential for further collaboration with Indonesia. The meeting in Bandung aimed not only at trade discussions or investment promotion but also at strengthening the regional value chain, creating new investment opportunities, and shaping ASEAN's future growth. He concluded by highlighting MBI Selangor's strategic role in aligning opportunities with reputable partners and transforming strategic goals into concrete projects, expressing hope for more practical discussions to enhance ASEAN's economic development through the Selangor-Indonesia partnership.
