Sanaa:The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) confirmed receiving a complaint regarding the misuse of artificial intelligence to create and distribute sexual images and videos allegedly involving students and teachers at a Kedah school.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MCMC emphasized that the misuse of AI for producing or distributing sexual content, particularly affecting children, is actionable under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Licensed service providers are also required to adhere to child protection obligations under Section 18 of the Online Safety Act 2025.
Convictions under these laws can result in fines up to RM500,000 or imprisonment for up to two years. Offences involving children may incur penalties extending to five years of imprisonment, depending on the legal provisions in place.
The issue is being addressed by multiple agencies, including the Communications Ministry, Home Ministry, Education Ministry, and Royal Malaysia Police, each with their own areas of responsibility. MCMC assured cooperation with these parties in the ongoing investigation.
The MCMC also reminded the public to refrain from creating, uploading, or redistributing sexual content involving children, as such actions could harm victims and hinder investigations. Individuals with pertinent information are encouraged to report it through appropriate channels.
