Hanoi:The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is conducting an investigation into the individuals responsible for creating and distributing content that allegedly insults His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on the Threads platform.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MCMC has reached out to Meta, the provider of Threads, after an edited image of Sultan Ibrahim, containing offensive elements, began circulating. The content has since been removed, and the account involved has been blocked from access.
MCMC stated that further legal action may be pursued if any laws have been violated, citing the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588) as a potential basis. The Commission emphasized its ongoing collaboration with platform providers to ensure actions are taken in line with community guidelines and relevant laws.
The public has been advised by MCMC to refrain from uploading or resharing the offending content to prevent further dissemination.
