MCMC Investigating Individual For Uploading Fake Content On Chief Justice’s Appointment

Petaling jaya: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating an individual suspected of uploading fake content relating to the appointment of the Chief Justice on their Instagram.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the commission stated that the individual's statement was recorded at 2.30 pm at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters. Additionally, a mobile phone and SIM card were seized to assist in the ongoing investigations.

MCMC emphasized the seriousness of spreading fake content that affects the integrity of the country's judicial institution. The commission warned that the misuse of social media for such purposes could undermine public confidence and disrupt public order in the country. It asserted that stern action would be taken in accordance with existing legal provisions.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which stipulates a maximum fine of RM500,000 or two years' imprisonment or both if found guilty.
