Cyberjaya: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Multimedia University (MMU) today formalised a collaboration through the AI Transformation Centre to enhance teaching and research at the university's newly launched Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Engineering (FAIE).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the AI Transformation Centre, or AIX, is a national investment by MCMC aimed at positioning Malaysia as a regional powerhouse in artificial intelligence talent, innovation, and industry-oriented solutions. The collaboration was sealed through an exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during the FAIE launch, involving MCMC chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din and MMU president Prof Datuk Dr Mazliham Mohd Su'ud, and was witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Earlier, Anwar officiated the new faculty, established to produce graduates well-versed in AI fundamentals and equipped with practical skills to design, implement, and integrate AI solutions across industries. Mazliham stated that with the establishment of FAIE, MMU is updating its programmes to prepare students for an AI-driven economy. 'We are offering specialised degrees such as the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Applied Artificial Intelligence and the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Intelligent Robotics, along with Master's and PhD programmes focusing on research,' he said.
The faculty is further supported by AIX, which is backed by a joint RM37 million investment from MCMC and MMU. Equipped with 13 state-of-the-art laboratories, AIX will serve as a hub for innovation, government-industry-academia collaboration, SME development, and rural empowerment.
The launch ended with a 'Temu Anwar' session, where the prime minister engaged with MMU students in an informal dialogue, sharing insights, answering questions, and inspiring them to play a role in building Malaysia's digital future.
