Kuching: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in collaboration with Multimedia University (MMU), GSMA, and MMU CNERGY, today launched the first Sarawak edition of the Converged Telecommunications Policy and Regulations (CTPR) Masterclass 2026. The initiative marks a significant milestone in expanding digital policy and regulatory capacity to East Malaysia while reinforcing Malaysia's role as a regional leader in communications and digital regulation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the masterclass, held from July 27 to 31 at the Pullman Hotel, was officiated by Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi. Themed 'Enabling the Next Wave of Connectivity and Multimedia: From 5G and AI to Satellite and Beyond - Policies for Future Digital Growth,' the Masterclass provides a strategic platform for governments, regulators, policymakers, and industry leaders to strengthen their understanding of emerging technologies and develop agile, technology-neutral, and future-ready policy and regulatory frameworks.
The statement from MCMC emphasized the importance of developing regulatory capacity and leadership as digital technologies continue to converge across telecommunications, broadcasting, online platforms, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and satellite communications. It highlighted that beyond infrastructure development, countries must invest in strengthening institutional capability and equipping policymakers and regulators with the necessary knowledge, skills, and strategic perspectives to respond to an increasingly dynamic and complex digital landscape.
Throughout the programme, participants will engage in executive learning sessions and interactive discussions led by regional and international experts, covering key areas such as converged regulation, artificial intelligence governance, 6G developments, and satellite communications. Since its establishment in 2015, the CTPR Masterclass has supported the professional development of nearly 400 regulators, policymakers, government officials, academics, and industry professionals from Malaysia and across ASEAN. Following the Sarawak edition, the CTPR Masterclass 2026 will continue with additional cohorts in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
