Bera: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) removed 8,756 cyberbullying-related content in 2024, as revealed by Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching. This removal signifies an increase compared to the previous year, which saw the deletion of 1,763 such pieces of content.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Teo emphasized the importance of responsible digital communication during her speech at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Rok in Bera. She highlighted the negative effects of cyberbullying on victims and called for a collective effort to create a safer online environment. Teo urged the public to exercise caution on digital platforms and to verify information before sharing it.
Students at the school were introduced to the Klik Dengan Bijak advocacy programme, aimed at promoting ethical and responsible online behavior. The programme is part of the Celik Rimba initiative and includes interactive activities and games. Last year, MCMC conducted 46 Klik Dengan Bijak programmes, reaching over 17,000 participants in Pahang.
Teo expressed optimism that the programme would help cultivate responsible and discerning telecommunication users. She also discussed the development of telecommunication infrastructure in Orang Asli areas within the Bera constituency. Five new towers have been completed and are operational, with two additional towers under construction as part of the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA).
Teo requested MCMC to collaborate with government agencies to identify Orang Asli settlements with telecommunication access issues for future projects. She reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to ensuring nationwide access to quality telecommunication and internet services. During her visit, she conducted a 4G service quality test at a JENDELA tower and interacted with students at the school.
