MCMC to Implement Digital Initiatives from Budget 2027

Hanoi:The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is committed to ensuring the effective implementation of initiatives announced under Budget 2027, aiming to deliver significant benefits to the people, industry, and the nation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MCMC stated that these initiatives are expected to drive digital economic development and bolster Malaysia's status as a competitive digital nation. A crucial initiative includes an allocation of RM5 billion for the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA), designed to expand high-quality Internet coverage in rural and remote areas, including Orang Asli villages.

This allocation will also enhance connectivity along 7,000 kilometers of roads and highways and 1,700 kilometers of rail routes throughout the country. Additionally, RM1 billion has been designated to strengthen the digital healthcare ecosystem via the National Digital Health Ecosystem and Connectivity initiative. This will improve digital infrastructure in healthcare, support the expansion of the Electronic Medical Record system, telehealth services, and facilitate medicine delivery with drones, thus increasing healthcare access in rural and remote areas.

An additional RM142 million is set aside to develop the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) into a digital community hub through digital skills and artificial intelligence (AI) training, simultaneously fostering local economic development and entrepreneurship.

The MCMC also highlighted that the MADANI Submarine Cable System's development would boost network connection capacity and resilience between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak, promoting inclusive and sustainable digital economic growth. In education, providing Wi-Fi at all public higher education institutions will expand student Internet access and support digital learning and talent development.

To enhance digital security, the focus will be on developing a Sovereign AI Cloud and strengthening national cybersecurity, prioritizing data sovereignty, safe AI development, and digital ecosystem resilience. The MCMC will further intensify the Safe Internet Campaign in schools nationwide and continue combating digital fraud by implementing measures that have already blocked over 5.7 billion scam-related calls and SMS messages.
