MCMC to Intensify Efforts Against Online Gambling During FIFA World Cup 2026

Kuala lumpur: Firm action will be taken against any parties promoting or conducting online gambling content and betting websites in conjunction with the FIFA World Cup 2026. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil announced that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will intensify monitoring efforts to curb such activities in the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi urged members of the public to report any links or content related to online gambling for further action. This announcement was made during a press conference following a Roundtable Conference on Safe and Responsible Media Reporting of Suicidal Behaviour, which was also attended by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

Fahmi stated that enforcement would extend beyond mobile applications to include gambling websites that attempt to exploit the tournament throughout its duration. The FIFA World Cup 2026 is scheduled to begin at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City with an opening match between Mexico and South Africa on June 11. The tournament will conclude with the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States, on July 19.
