Kuala lumpur: Historic public space Medan Pasar is set to be revitalised as part of efforts to build a more climate-resilient Kuala Lumpur - a Sponge City that is better prepared for heavy rain and a changing climate. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh announced that the project would be carried out through a collaboration between Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Yayasan Creador, incorporating nature-based solutions, including improved rainwater management.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the revitalisation is also aimed at making Medan Pasar more open, accessible, and welcoming to the community while preserving its historic character and heritage. Minister Yeoh emphasized that the initiative is not merely about aesthetics but about creating public spaces that better serve the community, strengthen communal ties, and enhance the city's liveability.

Medan Pasar, also known as Market Square, is strategically located near the Masjid Jamek area in central Kuala Lumpur. It is surrounded by significant landmarks, including Central Market, Chinatown, and Merdeka Square, making it a vital part of the city's cultural and historical landscape.
