Media Crisis Management Crucial To Preserve Credibility, Public Confidence In MACC

Putrajaya: The ability to manage communications strategically and make the right decisions when faced with a media crisis is important to ensure that the credibility and public confidence in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) continues to be maintained. MACC Strategic Communications Division (BKS) director, Hisyam Mohd Yusoff, emphasized the importance of careful handling of every piece of information related to the commission to avoid affecting public perception.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hisyam stated that in media crisis management, the implications of conveyed information can be significant if not handled effectively. Hence, communication actions must be carried out carefully, grounded in facts and narratives, and mindful of their impact on public confidence and perception of the MACC.

Hisyam highlighted these points during the Cakna Ilmu Series 11/2026: Media Crisis Communication and Management Strategy programme, held at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya. The programme was attended by 32 MACC officers from headquarters and state offices.

During the programme, Hisyam shared his experience in handling media crises and his approach in assessing issues before determining appropriate communication actions. He stressed the importance of understanding the role of the BKS in ensuring accurate and sufficient information is channeled before making communication decisions.

He noted that this information allows BKS to comprehensively assess issues and formulate precise narratives, considering the impact of their delivery on the community. Participants were also given scenario-based training to analyze issues, evaluate actions, and apply learned communication methods.

The session provided an opportunity for participants to ask questions and share experiences and real situations encountered in their duties.
