Melaka: The Melaka government has allocated RM2.5 million in aid for 5,812 recipients, covering welfare, economic development, and education for the Chinese community in the state this year. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced this initiative, which also includes a special annual contribution of RM200,000 distributed through the Melaka State Welfare Trust Fund to 1,000 eligible recipients to help ease their financial burden in celebrating Chinese New Year. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ab Rauf emphasized the significant contributions of the Chinese community, which comprises 203,400 people, about 19.42% of the state's total population, to the state's development. He assured that the state government listens to the needs of all communities, including the Chinese community, ensuring they receive necessary attention and assistance. The announcement was made during the 2025 Melaka State-Level Chinese New Year Open House in Malim Jaya, attended by State Health, Human Resources and Unity Committ ee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem. Ab Rauf highlighted the state's commitment to safeguarding the welfare and well-being of its people, regardless of background. Furthermore, Ab Rauf reiterated the state government's dedication to organizing the Melaka State-Level Chinese New Year celebration annually, recognizing it as an important festival for the Chinese community celebrated collectively. He expressed gratitude for Malaysia's peace and political stability, which allows for shared aspirations under the Malaysia MADANI framework, fostering unity. Meanwhile, Ngwe, the event's organizing committee chairman, noted the attendance of over 15,000 visitors from various communities at this year's open house event. He highlighted the event as a reflection of the unity and harmony among Malaysia's multiracial society, which continues to live harmoniously. Ngwe also announced that the next year's Melaka State-Level Chinese New Year Open House will be held in the Klebang state constituency, with future celebrations rota ting among different constituencies, offering assemblymen opportunities to participate in organizing the event.
