Melaka: Melaka Barisan Nasional (BN) intends to defend all 21 state seats it previously won in the upcoming 16th state election. BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who also chairs the state BN, had communicated this target to him.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid stated, "The chief minister has expressed his determination to retain all 21 seats," during a press briefing after the Rural and Regional Development Ministry's monthly assembly. Despite the strong determination to maintain their current hold, he emphasized that BN remained open to forming alliances with other parties, contingent upon a final decision by the coalition's central leadership.

Ahmad Zahid further elaborated on the openness to discussions, highlighting the Melaka chief minister's willingness to engage with other parties. He noted, "There will certainly be discussions among all parties. As the Melaka chief minister has said, he is very open to them." The central BN leadership will play a crucial role in these discussions and will ultimately decide on any agreements that may be reached.
