Melaka Denies Water Rationing Amid Social Media Claims

Melaka: Melaka State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad has denied claims of water rationing in the state, as circulated on social media.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azhar stated that the water supply in Melaka remains under control despite the challenges posed by prolonged hot weather and reduced rainfall in recent weeks, which have slightly affected raw water levels.

He explained that the state government, through the Melaka Water Regulatory Authority (BKSA) and Syarikat Air Melaka Bhd (SAMB), is implementing several measures to ensure a sufficient and stable water supply. These measures include optimizing operations at water treatment plants, utilizing existing ponds and lakes, and enhancing continuous monitoring of raw water sources.

Azhar also emphasized that efforts are being intensified to reduce water losses through leak control and improvements to the distribution system. He assured that the state government remains committed to implementing these measures continuously to safeguard the water supply.

Furthermore, he urged the public to use water prudently and avoid wastage. He also advised consumers to obtain information only from official state government channels and refrain from spreading unverified information.
