Melaka JKKN Showcases Local Arts to Boost Cultural Tourism

Melaka: The Melaka branch of the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) is set to enhance its efforts in promoting the state's arts and cultural heritage. This initiative focuses on musical performances that emphasize the uniqueness of local arts, aiming to attract cultural tourism.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ezlina Alias, the director of the Melaka JKKN, stated that these performances will be key attractions at the Malam Lestari Seni Budaya. This event is the central highlight of the Straits of Melaka Arts and Culture Festival and the Festival Sungai Melaka (FSSSM) 2025, scheduled to take place over three days starting October 24 at Dataran Pengkalan Rama Pantai.

Ezlina explained that the FSSSM serves as a platform to bolster cultural arts and tourism activities, consistent with Melaka's designation as a UNESCO World Heritage City. The festival also aims to promote unity and harmony among the country's multi-ethnic communities. The Straits of Melaka has historically been a hub for trade, cultural exchange, and interaction among various global civilizations, contributing to the distinctive identity of the local Malay, Chinese, Indian, Baba Nyonya, Chetti, Portuguese, and international communities.

Further elaborating, Ezlina highlighted that the Malam Lestari Seni Budaya, organized by the Melaka JKKN in partnership with the Melaka River and Coastal Development Corporation (PPSPM), will feature performances that merge five musical segments. These segments will showcase the history, heritage, and cultural diversity of the Straits of Melaka region.

Ezlina also mentioned that the event will feature performances by well-known artists such as Datuk Syafinaz Selamat, Roslan Madun, Evon Song, Zanie Zain, Aien Othman, Zubir Khan, and Aishah Retno. Additionally, there will be performances by the Melaka Peranakan Chinese Association, the Portuguese community, and students from the ASWARA dance faculty.
