Melaka State Government Seeks Approval for New Hospital to Ease Overcrowding

Melaka: The Melaka state government has announced plans to request the construction of a new hospital from Putrajaya to alleviate patient congestion and address the shortage of parking spaces. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh revealed the initiative, which will be discussed in the upcoming State Government Council Meeting (MMKN) before being submitted to the federal government.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh emphasized the growing healthcare needs of Melaka's increasing population. During a recent visit to Hospital Melaka, he noted the facility's inability to accommodate the current patient volume, highlighting its 90-year history as evidence of its outdated infrastructure. The Chief Minister shared these insights with reporters following the Melaka State Assembly session at the Seri Negeri Complex.

Addressing public concerns about hospital parking fees, Ab Rauf explained that the parking facilities fall under the Ministry of Health (MOH). He mentioned that the construction of a new multi-storey parking facility is part of a public-private partnership initiative to expand parking availability. This facility, funded by a private company rather than the government, will impose charges to recover the investment costs.
