Melaka: The Melaka government is enhancing the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme by expanding it to the parliamentary level, starting in Alor Gajah this year to boost service delivery.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh stated that the initiative aims to ensure the presence of elected representatives and the government is felt at the grassroots, facilitating quicker resolution of local issues. The rollout begins in the Asahan state constituency, adopting a new approach extended to the parliamentary level through a series of programmes over approximately a month. The WRUR programme will commence in Asahan from April 4 to 11, followed by Gadek from April 12-18, and Machap Jaya from April 19-25. Ab Rauf shared this information with reporters after attending the Melaka Sayang Rakyat Aidilfitri celebration.
Earlier, the WRUR programme was launched during an event attended by Asahan assemblyman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan. Ab Rauf revealed that out of 28 state constituencies in Melaka, 11 WRUR programmes have been executed so far, with nearly 90 per cent of public complaints resolved and the remaining issues currently being addressed. Among the notable achievements in Asahan is the completion of the RM11 million second Jus Water Treatment Plant, which is anticipated to commence operations in May, benefiting nearly 25,000 users.
The programme has also engaged over 500 Orang Asli through 10 special initiatives to ensure inclusive development. Over the past three years, more than 200 initiatives have been implemented, including the disbursement of nearly RM23.9 million in welfare aid to residents in Asahan alone.
Meanwhile, Ab Rauf noted that the state does not currently see a need to implement a work-from-home policy, citing Melaka's small geographical size and efficient accessibility. "Melaka has good connectivity and short travel distances, so working from home is not a pressing need at this time," he said.
